5 New Year’s Resolutions to Make 2020 Your Best Hair Yet Year

Let the countdown begin! Not only are we about to start a new year, but a new decade. While you are reflecting on 2019 and deciding on your 2020 New Year’s resolutions, don’t forget to add a couple in there for your hair.

Accept and Embrace Your Hair

Those with curly hair want straight hair. Those with straight hair want wavy hair. Those who are brunette wish to be blonde. And, so on and so on with endless combinations of haves and wants. What if this year, this new decade, you decided just to accept and embrace the hair you have?

Think about it, while you might be longing for that straight blonde hair, someone else is longing for your curly brunette locks. So, really, you have the hair that someone else wants! And it's all yours! How blessed are you?

A good start to this New Year’s resolution for your hair is to determine what it is about your hair that you don’t particularly care for. Once you have narrowed that down, you can then collaborate with Claire or Laurent to determine the best products and techniques for bringing out the best version of your hair.

Invest in Quality Hair Products

Did you know that shampoos, conditioners, gels, sprays, oils, and other hair care products have an expiration date? As we are about to begin a new decade, check to see if any of your products have expired and if they have, toss them. Most hair products have a shelf life of between 18 months and three years.

If you aren’t already using high-quality hair products, maybe 2020 is a good year to start. Your products should be specifically designed for your particular hair type. They should also not be chock-full of sulfates and parabens, as well as sodium chloride, polyethylene glycols, and synthetic fragrances and colors.

Do yourself and your hair a favor, and don’t cheap out on hair products! And also do a little self-educating and know what exactly it is you are putting on your head on a daily basis.

Did you know that Paris Claire Salon is about to launch its very own line of natural and environmentally friendly hair care products?

Indulge in Weekly Treatments

Many of us are so consumed with the constant demands of work, family, and our social lives that we don’t dedicate enough time to our own self-care. Self-care includes haircare. Once a week, carve out at least 30 minutes from your busy schedule and indulge in some weekly treatments, such as exfoliating your scalp and putting on a deep conditioning hair mask. While your hair mask is on, you can even enjoy a bubble bath and a face mask. And perhaps a glass of wine or herbal tea.

Try No Heat Once a Week

Once a week, give your hair a break from the blow dryer, curling iron, or straighter and allow your hair to dry al natural. Maybe this day can also be on your self-care day. On the days that you do apply heat to your hair, make sure you are first applying a heat protection product.

Eat for Healthy Hair (and Body)

Like the rest of your body, your scalp and hair need certain nutrients to thrive. Fortunately, what’s good for your hair is also good for the rest of your body. If you want great, healthy hair, you have to eat great, healthy food!

Your hair wants foods that are rich in iron, vitamin B, vitamin C, and protein. Carrots, pumpkins, broccoli, oranges, strawberries, sweet potatoes, nuts, avocado, and eggs are all hair-healthy foods. (Stay tuned for our next blog, where we will share with you the ultimate diet for your hair (and skin and nails).

But in the meantime...

May the start of 2020 bring you joy, love, success, clarity, creativity, adventure, and fantastic hair days!
